Time: Budapest is one of world’s greatest places – UPDATED
The Hungarian capital was created by the merger of Budapest, Buda, Óbuda and Pest. Budapest celebrates this with nearly 100 events.
Events in the capital
Budapest has many sights, such as the Chain Bridge, the Parliament or the Fisherman’s Bastion. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the city’s foundation, there are a number of activities for visitors.
In September, an outdoor concert will be held in the famous Heroes’ Square. There will also be a Budapest Cake Competition, where the winning cake will be sold in every confectionery in the city. The Budapest History Museum will host a new exhibition on the history of the city.
Several new buildings have recently opened in Budapest. The Museum of Ethnography, the House of Music Hungary and the Hungarian State Opera.
It is worth spending several days in Budapest to make time for everything. There is a wide range of accommodation options. A new hotel is opening directly opposite the Opera House.
The historic Klotild Palace will also be converted into a hotel under the name St. Regis Hotel Budapest. In addition, the popular Vörösmarty Square will see the Dorothea Hotel as part of the Marriott Autograph Collection.
Time recognition
The Hungarian capital is also recognised by time.com. The website has included it in its list of the World’s Greatest Places in 2023.
2023 will see Budapest’s landmark, the Chain Bridge’s reopening for pedestrians. It is still a question of whether cars will be able to return to the bridge. Currently, only taxis and buses can use it.
In October, there will be a marathon near the Chain Bridge. Athletes will run to and under the overpass, Time Magazine wrote. “Other anniversary events include an open-air jubilee concert in Heroes’ Square in September; the Cake of Budapest competition, with the winning confectionary set to be offered citywide after the first public tasting this fall; and a new exhibit on the identity of Budapest at the Budapest History Museum”, they added.
Several Hungarian institutions reopened in Budapest, including the Museum of Ethnography, the House of Music Hungary, and the Hungarian State Opera.
There are many new and renewed attractions in the capital’s world-famous Buda Castle. Among others, the St. Stephen’s Hall, the Guardhouse, and Karakash Pasha Tower. We wrote HERE about the reconstruction of Archduke Joseph’s astonishing palace supervised by the Várkapitányság, a company operating several facilities in the Castle District.
The anniversary will see some hotels reopen. “The W Budapest is set to open directly across from the opera house in July. The historic Klotild Palace will be converted into the St. Regis Hotel Budapest. And the Dorothea Hotel, part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, will debut on Vörösmarty Square”, Time said.
Budapest is an excellent destination in all seasons. It is recommended for families, friends and couples alike, with its enchanting buildings, colourful programme of activities and captivating gastronomy.
